Busy Painting~

Tulip Row
12" x 24"
Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
~Sold~

This painting was so much fun! This is a departure for me, more flowing brush strokes and soft edges. This is very much the way I see things without corrective lenses! I am very pleased with the way it turned out. I may have to do more paintings like this, although it is getting mixed reviews around the house with an even split in the voting........the dogs have yet to vote, but they will side with me, I give them biscuits.

Fancy Pears on Red
8" x 10"
~Sold~

Miranda helped me with this one, she told me when it was finished, that is often the very hardest part about painting, knowing when to stop.

I have purchased a very ornate heavy dark antique gold frame for this painting.

Both of these paintings will be included in the show in May at the WSOC-TV studio in Charlotte, North Carolina. They will be on display until the end of the month. They will be available for purchase in the online stores the first of June.

Well, off to painting again,

Torrie

Two Red Pears, New Painting today! ~~SOLD~~

Two Red Pears - SOLD
6" x 6" Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
Available for purchase directly from Artist

This is the newest pear painting! I am almost out of the case of 6" x 6" canvas that I purchased. I have enjoyed them so much. I will definitely have to order more. That is the down side of living in a small town. --No art stores. The last time I drove to Charlotte to buy canvas, they were out of my size. Since gas is ridiculously expensive, I think I will just continue to order online from http://www.cheapjoes.com/ The staff at Cheap Joes are wonderful and ordering is simple, but I miss strolling down the aisle looking at all the pretty art supplies and wondering what I could do with them.... My favorite is looking at the pastels. A wall of color neatly organized and on display.....it is like a rainbow on the wall. Well, back to the real world.
I do have the water lily pond started....I guess I am intimidated by the beautiful ponds of Monet....I have been putting off really getting into it. I will post it as soon as I have conquered my fear and finished it.
I have recently opened a store on www.zazzle.com/torriesmiley At my zazzle store you will be able to buy stamps, mouse pads, note cards, coffee cups and many other items made from my original paintings. I will not be selling any prints of my paintings, just gift items. I have not fully stocked the store yet, so if there is a painting you would like to have made into note cards, postage stamps, etc..., just email me and I will add the item to the store.
Well, I had better get going. So much to do.....
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the new painting!

EBSQ - - Art of the Day!

Art of the Day!!

Lemons and Red Bowl
8" x 10" Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD
I am so excited and honored to have been selected as "Art of the Day" at EBSQart.com. This was part of the series of Lemon paintings I did around Christmas. They have been such a big hit, I will be painting more in the near future.
I have two new paintings finished and ready to put online, but the weather has not been good enough to get good quality pictures. I take pictures of my paintings outside in natural light. Hopefully, I will be able to do that tomorrow. The snow has stopped, but it will be 20-30 degrees and I don't know if my camera will be happy with that. One painting is a new version of Green Apple Martini---16" x 20", and a new 6" x 6" Pear painting (this time a golden yellow pear and red wine grapes.
Well, I had better get busy. So much to do.
Check out the "Art of the Day"--- http://www.ebsqart.com/ I get to be famous for the day!

New Paintings!

New Paintings Available

Bosc Pear

Red Martini

California Poppies III

http://stores.ebay.com/Torrie-Smiley-Original-Works-of-Art

These paintings will be listed for auction on eBay tonight. I have a small (8" x 10") oil painting of a red wine bottle and wine glass that is half finished. It will be listed soon. I have a ton of cleaning I have neglected to do around the house, so that will keep me busy for a while. Next up will be Low Country watercolors and watercolors of the Tall Ships Festival from Charleston.

The Cheap Joe's Sale was wonderful! That is where I bought the great green oil color that I used on the Bosc Pear Painting. I also picked up a 36" x 60" canvas--it was on sale, I had to---I also had to leave it in Charlotte because it did not fit in the car.....It will be coming home soon.

Well, off to Gaffney. I promised to help Bobbie pick out a rug.

Check back again soon. I am going to update my blog with links to Paypal if you would like to purchase paintings directly from my blog.

Have a wonderful day!

Upcoming Etsy event, New Watercolors

New Watercolors in the Series
Pear Series Four

Cherries Series One
Abstract Series One - The Butterfly

The watercolor series has been a big hit. I am selling paintings before I can put them on the blog or update all the websites.

I am extra-busy this week getting paintings ready to go to Chapel Hill. If you notice some of the larger paintings are no longer listed, they are currently being displayed at Chapel Hill.

I am going to be featured in the Esty Showcase this Sunday, September 9, 2007. Hopefully, there will be some new stuff added before then. But, if there is something you like, get it before the Sunday rush. www.torriesmiley.etsy.com

I will be away from the studio Friday and Saturday, so if you purchase then and don't here from me---don't worry, all is well. I am going to Atlanta to see ZZ-Top in concert! I will be home late Saturday and will email you confirmation for your purchases.

Thanks for stopping by and your continued interest in my art!

New Watercolor Series

Low Country One

So many ideas, so little time. This is the first of what will be a series of small watercolors. They will all be 5" x 7" of varying watercolor papers from 140 - 300 lb, both hot and cold press. I will be painting my favorite things in watercolor which will include: A variety of landscapes, but quite a few of the low country of South Carolina. I will also be doing pears, martinis, and wine art and possibly throw in a few cowboys. These will all be listed on eBay for auction starting at 99 cents as soon as they are finished.

I will be painting larger works using acrylic on canvas as always with a few small oil paintings in between.

Remember, auction paintings are listed on eBay only. Paintings in my eBay store are also sold in my Etsy.com store, so if you are watching a painting in my eBay store and it disappears, it was probably sold at other websites or in the local gallery here in Shelby.

Pear Reflections I and II

Pear Reflections II

Pear Reflections I

http://stores.ebay.com/Torrie-Smiley-Original-Works-of-Art

These two new paintings will be listed on eBay this evening.

This is a followup piece to Pear Reflections using a red background instead of the dark blue. I also split the composition to be an individual painting of the two Bosc pears. I often paint pieces over and over again with subtle differences, partly as practice and also to see the way my technique and art has progressed and changed.
I have started a Charleston painting from the adventure to the Tall Boat Festival. It is coming along...
I will be starting more Martini art and I am thinking of doing Tuscan Sun again ....only bigger.
Check back again soon...

New Bosc Pear Painting

Bunch of Bosc Pears

8 x 10 Acrylic on Canvas
This new pear painting will be listed on eBay this evening. This is the newest in the 2007 pear series. I have not painted as much as I would like. Been too busy with the everyday stuff. I have another pear painting drawn and ready to paint. I have some wine compositions that I photographed but have not started working on yet. There are not enough hours in the day. I start the new work schedule with the hospital next week, it should free up more time for painting.
I have joined a new website. Same paintings, just more exposure. Check it out:
Check back again soon.
