Mystery Art Show and Sale ~ Paintings completed!

The Royal Academy of London calls it the "Secret Postcard Event", Artworks of Cincinnati calls it "Secret Artworks", and The Arts Council of Moore County calls it "Anonymous Art". The Cleveland County Arts Council in Shelby, North Carolina calls it
"Mystery Art"
~ An art "Whodunnit" of miniature proportions~

This is the second year that I have participated in the Mystery Art Show and Sale. It is always so much fun. There are 200 paintings included in the event. They are all painted on 5"x 7" gallery wrapped canvas. These small creations are hung anonymously in the gallery and the identity of the artist is given to the purchaser of the painting. All paintings are available for $35.00 with the proceeds going to the Cleveland County Arts Council. Come and join in the fun at the opening reception April 29, 2010 from 5:30 through 8:30 pm. Come early~ the paintings sell quickly.

This year, I painted small versions of some of my favorite pear paintings and "best sellers".

Green Pears on Linen IV

This is a smaller version of the painting that hangs in my kitchen.
I have painted this composition several times. The paintings are in collections in the United States and Australia.

This is the third version of "The Lazy Pear" painting titled:

The Lazy Red Pear

Pear IX

The number nine says it all~ The brightly colored, loosely painted pear is a collector favorite. I included a version of this painting in last year's sale.

I am very honored to have been allowed to participate in this charity event to support the Cleveland County Arts Council in Shelby, NC. I moved to Charlotte at the first of this year, but still try to help out whenever I can. I publicly showed my first painting at the Council's Artist Competition in 2001, so there is a soft spot in my heart for the Council.

Look forward to seeing you there~

Henry ~ The Flamingo

Henry, the Flamingo
6" x 6" Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
~SOLD~

I have learned my lesson, never ask your daughter what to name a painting. Now I am stuck, if I don't name it Henry, she will be offended. So here it is: Henry, the Flamingo. I was requested by a collector on eBay to paint more Flamingos and Ostriches. This is the first of three planned flamingo paintings. The next is an 8" x 10" of two flamingos together. The third will be approximately 9" x 12" and will be the one I have done before of the flamingo walking in the water with reflections. Henry is currently available for purchase in my EBSQart gallery and my Etsy store.

I will also be painting more pears in between the flamingo paintings and I am still participating in the weekly challenges. My next challenge will either be painted using watercolor or pastel....she wanted us to branch out to try other mediums...other than what we are most comfortable using.

That is about all the big plans so far for the upcoming week, unless you count cleaning house, doing laundry, and getting everything in order before Courtney gets home with her laundry and clutter~~ and of course there is the real job. So, that means at any given time there will be four computers up and running~~ the local power company just loves me.....

Thanks for checking in!

New Pear Paintings!

I must first apologize that my store inventories are dwindling. I have been very fortunate to have acquired new collectors and I will by trying very hard to keep up. Here is the current list of new and upcoming works!

Two Gold Pears III
6" x 6" Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Two Red Pears IV

6" x 6" Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

These are the newest pear paintings currently available for purchase at my website and www.torriesmiley.etsy.com

I have had the busiest month to date...the following is a detailed list of what is coming up. I generally just paint what comes to mind when I enter the studio door. But, now there are commissions to do, an art show at EBSQ, and a watercolor workshop coming up. So, here is the current list of things to do:

Leftover Pear - sold

Leftover Pear has sold and moved away. I will be painting another "Leftover Pear" this weekend by request. It may be a bit difficult as I really did this painting with the paint that was left unused after several pear paintings. I will have to recreate the pear with its very own paint.

This will bring an end to the current 6" canvas. I have ordered a new case of canvas and hopefully it will arrive next week.

Tuscan Sun - Sold

I have been commissioned to recreate Tuscan Sun but quite a bit larger. Tuscan Sun is 6" x 6" on a canvas panel. I will be painting Tuscan Sun 18" x 24" to move to Ohio. This will be a true adventure for me. I have not painted a landscape this large in a while. I will keep you updated on the progress.

Art Show at EBSQart.com

Cupcake, by Naquaiya

It is time for the annual "Ripped Off" art show at www.ebsqart.com I had not planned on participating, things have been so busy, but Naquaiya, a fabulous artist who does wonderful things with scratchboard invited me to partner with her. I will be painting her "Cupcake" using my own style. She will be using scratchboard to recreate one of my martini paintings. I can not wait to see her martini. I will post the final paintings, stop in an see the show. My entry should be on the website by next week.

Here is a link to Naquaiya's online gallery at EBSQ:

Check out her work. She also has a store at etsy.com. Her store includes her new watercolor paintings.

Well, this should keep me busy for a few days. I will check back in and let you know how things are progressing.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

New Pear Paintings Today!

Two Green Pears II
6" x 6" Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Leftover Pear

6" x 6" Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Two new pear paintings! I have listed new small pear paintings in all the usual places, the etsy.com store, my eBay store, and my web gallery-- the links are to the right.

For those of you who are tired of all the pears. I will be starting an orchid still life painting tonight. I have a martini painting that needs to be finished and there is the landscape I keep threatening to finish.

Since the housecleaning fairy skipped my house, looks like I will have to clean house and do laundry for myself. I know there is a housecleaning fairy that keeps other houses clean. There has to be......who has time to clean house...

Thanks for stopping by to look at the new work!

Check back again soon!

Tar Heel Martini, New March Madness Painting!

Tar Heel Martini

16"x 20" Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
Available on Auction at eBay

It is that time of year again! March Madness! It all started when my daughter was accepted at UNC Chapel Hill. Since then, I have started watching a lot of basketball. This painting has been in the back of my mind for a while.....well, I let it out and here it is......

Tar Heel Martini, --- my daughter said it needed more Carolina blue, but I like it.

I will be headed off to UNC to take her back to school from Spring break this weekend. There is no telling what I will be inspired to paint while I am on campus!

I will be painting more than usual this next week....but it will be the bathroom walls. I am doing some more work on the continuing project that is my house.

I do have a waterlily painting drawn on canvas and ready to paint, similar in style to the ones of Monet. There will also be more pear paintings.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the art!
